A lot of people our age might not know about the movie as it was released in 2000, and when we were that age this movie was much too...inappropriate and mature for us. And even I did not know that the movie was actually adapted from Bret Easton Ellis's book, entitled American Psycho as well. I haven't had the chance to read his book yet, but if it is anything like the movie, I am very eager to get my hands on it! In the movie, which is set in 1987, you receive a narrative of the life of Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale), an upper class investment banker in New York (AKA a yuppie). In the daytime, his life seems normal for any upper class yuppie snob, and his narratives give you a satirical view of that type of lifestyle. But when night falls, Batemen does unforgettable things that will leave viewers surprised and on the edge of their seats thinking, "What will he do next?!" As the movie progresses, of course, things only get worse and viewers get a glimpse into the more twisted parts of Bateman's mind as he spirals more and more out of control.
The movie not only features Christian Bale, but also Reese Witherspoon, Willem Dafoe, and Jared Leto. It is rated R, as it should be for its pretty graphic sexual content and violence. But if you are allowed to watch this movie or can watch it under adult supervision, I would strongly recommend that you see it. The movie is supposed to cause you to think, so do not expect to sit and watch it and not be intellectually stimulated or maybe even confused. It's okay to be confused! Do some research and see what some people say about the meaning of the movie. But do not be ignorant and say it was stupid just because you do not understand the message of the movie.
Huzzah, Huzzah! It is not only my first blog outside of Myspace, but it is also my first movie review! I hope you enjoyed my first review! I am excited to post it (can't you tell?)!
Thank you!
